Recital Rules & FAQs
-
Do not talk on your phone or have loud conversations during the performance. An usher will ask you to step outside if you do not follow this rule. ALL PHONES MUST BE TURNED OFF DURING RECITAL.
Please enter/exit the auditorium only in between acts, so as not to stand up in front of a family trying to watch their own dancer perform.
You may only save the seats on either side of you. It is not acceptable to block off an entire row of seats and the venue will not allow this.
At no time should a student enter the audience in costume or tap/clogging shoes. Please wear a cover up when entering the auditorium.

Your dressing room assignments, along with a map of how to find each dressing room can be found here on our recital tab.
It is imperative that the children remain quiet in the dressing room so as not to disturb what is happening on stage. Also, please do not allow the children to run in the dressing rooms. This is dangerous, especially with slippery tap shoes. We appreciate your help!

You are responsible for dressing your child at recital. You should be dressed and ready to go 10 songs in advance of your song. We will send someone to collect the class at this time. Remember - we highly recommend coming already dressed and ready in your first costume!
-
You should arrive already dressed and ready, including makeup and hair, in your first costume. You will thank yourself!
Please be sure to bring all shoes, tights, costumes, accessories, safety pins, bobby pins, etc. Please secure all headpieces so that they will not fall off! Use elastic and lots of bobby pins!
We recommend applying at least some stage makeup to your child. Stage lights have a tendency to “wash out” dancer’s faces.
No jewelry is allowed unless specified by the teacher. The idea is to look uniform. Plus certain jewelry could cause injuries to the dancer or others while performing.
The rolling duffel bags with the pop up garment rack are not allowed to be used in the dressing rooms. There will be racks available for you!
Don’t forget to bring a cover up for your dancer to wear while in the auditorium!

Stage Moms are responsible for accompanying the class at all times backstage - from the dressing room to the stage and back after the performance. All other mothers watching from the audience should return to the dressing room immediately after your child’s number to relieve the stage mom. Stage moms must stay until every child is collected.
If you would like to be a stage mom, please sign the list posted on your dance room door. We always appreciate the help of our stage moms!

At the end of each recital we present trophies to students that have had 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 years of dance. It does not matter where your child has danced, we recognize previous years of dance at other studios. Students who sign our trophy list on the bulletin board by the program book deadline will be listed in the program book in our trophy section. This is Miss Kelley’s gift to the students - there is no trophy fee! If you are receiving a trophy, be backstage during the last number, we will not practice this during rehearsal.
-
These are not dress rehearsals, unless your teacher says otherwise. (You may see some older students who have many performances in costume to practice quick changes).
Rehearsals do run longer than recital and generally take 4-4.5 hours. You may leave after your last number. We recommend bringing a few toys or a tablet to help keep children occupied, and maybe a snack. There will be concessions sold during recital.

Every dance lasts between a minute and a half to two minutes. You can count the number of dances in between your child’s acts to determine how much time you have. If you feel you do not have enough time to return to your dressing room, dress, and get backstage again, you may use our quick change area. Listed below are a few tips for quick changes:
You can layer and wear two pairs of tights at once! Using tan tights as your base, you may put another color on top if needed, or remove the colored pair to show the tan tights. It is much faster to remove/put on another layer, rather than completely removing one and swapping to another.
Bring a flashlight for the quick change area.
Have an empty bag or basket with your name on it to toss in the costume and accessories that you are removing so nothing is lost.
Have the costume and accessories already laid out that you are needing to quickly change into.
Practice your quick change at rehearsal!
